Discover My Gyro & Falafel

Walking into My Gyro & Falafel feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it’s doing. I first stopped by during a busy lunch hour, and the line told me everything I needed to know. Locals shuffled in with confidence, already knowing their order, while first-timers leaned toward the menu board, clearly tempted by everything from stacked gyros to freshly fried falafel. The smell of seasoned meat, warm pita, and garlic sauce hits you instantly, and it sets the tone for what’s coming next.

I’ve eaten Mediterranean food across Connecticut and beyond, and one thing I pay close attention to is consistency. Here, the gyro meat is shaved fresh, not sitting under a heat lamp too long, and the falafel comes out hot with a crisp exterior and a soft, herb-packed center. During one visit, I watched the cook shape falafel by hand before frying, which explains the texture and flavor. That hands-on process matters, especially when you compare it to mass-produced versions that often taste dry or bland.

The menu is straightforward but thoughtful. You’ll find lamb and chicken gyros, falafel wraps, rice platters, salads, and sides like hummus and fries. What stands out is balance. The spices don’t overpower, and the sauces complement instead of masking flavors. Their tzatziki is tangy and fresh, while the hot sauce has real heat without being aggressive. A staff member once explained how they prep vegetables daily to keep crunch and color, which aligns with what food safety research shows: fresher produce retains more nutrients and flavor, according to data published by the USDA.

One thing I appreciate as someone who reads a lot of restaurant reviews is how often regulars mention reliability. Online feedback consistently highlights fast service and generous portions. From my experience, those comments are accurate. Orders move quickly even during peak hours, and plates come out full enough that I’ve often saved half for later. That value factor is important, especially now. According to the National Restaurant Association, over 60% of diners prioritize portion size and price when choosing casual dining, and this place clearly understands that mindset.

The location at 1030 Stratford Ave, Stratford, CT 06615, United States makes it easy to swing by whether you’re on a lunch break or heading home after work. Parking is usually manageable, and the interior is clean and simple, designed more for eating well than lingering too long. Still, I’ve noticed people chatting comfortably at tables, which says a lot about the atmosphere. It’s relaxed, not rushed, even when the kitchen is busy.

What adds to the trust factor is transparency. When I asked about ingredients due to a friend’s dietary restrictions, the staff answered confidently and clearly. That kind of knowledge builds credibility, especially as more diners care about what’s in their food. Organizations like the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics emphasize informed choices, and it’s reassuring to see a local diner reflect that awareness without making it complicated.

There are a few limitations worth noting. Seating is modest, so large groups may feel tight during rush hours, and the menu doesn’t change often. That said, the consistency is part of the appeal. If you’re craving a dependable gyro or falafel that tastes the same every time, that stability works in your favor.

I’ve brought friends here who are new to Mediterranean food, and every time the reaction is the same: surprise at how filling and flavorful everything is. One friend described the falafel as bold and satisfying, and another called the gyro juicy and well-seasoned. Those real reactions match what you’ll find echoed across reviews online, reinforcing that this spot delivers exactly what it promises, plate after plate.

  • Fantastic Lentil soup. Shawarma Chocken Wrap with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce and their Lamb, Aldi fantastic. That Lentil soup though I can't get enough. Male sure you ask for lemon!!

  • I visited My Gyro and Falafel yesterday, and I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the falafel platter along with baklava, and both were absolutely delicious. The falafel was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. The platter came with fresh sides that complemented the dish really well. The baklava was also a standout—sweet, flaky, and rich without being overly heavy. It was the perfect way to end the meal. The place felt clean and welcoming, and the service was efficient. While it was a short visit, the food alone made it a memorable stop. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try, especially if you enjoy Mediterranean flavors. It’s worth trying at least once!

  • I’ve been here a few times and the food has always consistently been good. I’ve had both the lamb and chicken gyros. I enjoy the lamb the best. The meat was flavorful and moist. I found the chicken gyro too greasy and a tad dry for my liking. The fries are always fresh and seasoned well. Prices are reasonable with lunch specials around $11-13 until 3p. The only recommendation is for them to remember to provide tzatziki sauce in the bag. I had to eat my chicken gyro plain.

  • The food was yummy! I had the Adan kebob sandwich and a baklava. The guys where very welcoming and I'm generally not a great fan of baklava but I really enjoyed theirs! If you're one who does, you should definitely try it out

  • My Gyro Turkish Cuisine is absolutely amazing! It's a real gem, the best food of this kind we've had in a very long time. It's worth a drive to eat food this good! The menu is diverse and varied, sort of a middle eastern melange. Shawarma dishes are a mainstay, with chicken, beef, or lamb. Lots of wonderful, exotic salads as well, Damascus, Tabbouleh. The portions are enormous and prices very reasonable. Platters come with a couple of sides, such as stuffed grape leaves, eggplant salad, and baba ghanoush. The rice is made to perfection! Mujadara rice is made with lentils and grilled onions, we've never had it before but now are hooked! It's a small place, mostly for take out, with a few stools and a counter. Don't let that fool you. The food is gourmet quality, tasting homemade with attention and care to detail. The people making the food obviously care about their product, it’s not just a job for them. It all tastes freshly made, exotically spiced, and absolutely delicious! The people are the nicest and friendliest. They make the experience even more special. This is truly a wonderful, unique place. It's delicious and fun - isn't that what going out to eat is supposed to be about? You can find places like this if you know where to look in Queens New York - Stratford is very lucky to have them. We don't live that close but will be making the drive just for their food.

  • This place has really great tasting food but there’s only one problem. The food is a little too greasy. Food doesn’t need this much oil, it’s very unnecessary.

  • An unexpected surprise. My Gyro & Falafel prepares absolutely delicious dishes aside from gyros and falafel. I had a combo platter with a choice of 3 different rices. I went with the spicy rice. The dish had lamb shish, lamb shawarma, and a perfectly cooked lamb chop with grilled vegetables and grape leaves. It was heavenly! My husband had lamb shawarma pita and the lamb shish puta with all the fixings. So good! Even the French fries were absolutely delightful. We eat at a lot of highly rated restaurants - and this food is by far some of the best we’ve had. I wish I had taken pictures of the dinners but I was overwhelmed with how good everything was.
